PURPOSE:To realize a compact, low price photo cell by forming the photo cell with a positive electrode made of a Chevrel compound, a positive current collector, a solid electrolyte, a negative electrode, and a negative current collector, and installing a window for light introduction on the positive electrode side. CONSTITUTION:A photo cell consists of a positive electrode 1 made of a Chevrel compound having an Mo6X8 (X=S, Se, or Te) block, a positive current collector 4, a solid electrolyte 2, a negative electrode, and a negative current collector, and a window for light introduction is installed on the positive electrode 1 side. When a load is connected between terminals A, B for discharge, current flows from the terminal A to the terminal B through the load, and further flows to the terminal A through the negative electrode, the solid electrolyte, and the positive electrode. When the light strikes against the photo cell, the cell is discharged without almost no decrease in positive electrode potential. The photo cell utilizes photo charging capability of a Chevrel compound having Mo6X8 block. The photo cell which is compact, low price, reversible, and capable of steady photo charging can be obtained. |
