This apparatus for tensioning the selvages of fabrics, which has application in machines of the hollow table type for shearing the same, comprises a pair of nozzles housed in the table which can be adjusted to the position of the selvages of the fabric which runs over the mouth of the table, these nozzles being connected to suction equipment which tensions the selvages, separating them from the shearing roller. With this device the selvages of the fabric, which form wrinkles, are prevented from being reached by the helicoidal knives of the machine which cuts off hairs, projecting threads and impurities from the fabric. <IMAGE>
