PURPOSE:To obtain a reference electrode requiring no replenishment of an electrolyte by providing a porous plate-shaped tip member at one open end of an electrically insulating hollow tube to close it while a water absorbing and retaining material impregnated with an electrolyte is placed in the hollow tube. CONSTITUTION:A reference electrode 14 to be provided on a flow cell 11 of a flow type ion electrode device is so arranged that a plate-shaped tip member 22 made of a porous ceramics, a hydrophelic semi-permeable film or the like is fixed liquid sealed at an lower open end of a hollow glass tube 21 with an adhesive 23 while water absorbing and water retaining material 25 such as Karaya gum impregnated with an electrolyte solution such as KCl is packed into the tube 21 while an Ag-AgCl electrode (non-polarization electrode) 26 is emmersed in the material 25. The electrode 26 is connected to a pin plug 27 piercing a cap 24. As the material 25 is little dry even when left alone, it eliminates the need for replenishing the electrolyte as required for the conventional reference electrode. In addition, the electrode 26 contacts the electrolyte without fail regardless of direction thereof, for example, sideways. |
