PURPOSE:To stabilize continuous casting operation by forming an inner side wall of a side dam with heat insulating material having grindability and an outer side wall with high heat conductivity and high strength material, respectively and further, sending the side dam to casting direction at the prescribed speed. CONSTITUTION:The side dams are constituted with laminated materials stuck with the inner side walls 3a, 3b and the outer side walls 4a, 4b. Then, the inner side walls 3a, 3b are made to thickness W1 to bring into contact with rough surface 10 at the circumferential parts of the rolls 1a, 1b and the outer side walls 4a, 4b are made to thickness W2 to slidingly bring into contact with the side faces S of the rolls. The inner wall 3a, 3b is formed with material having heat insulating property and grindability and the outer wall 4a, 4b is formed with the material having high heat conductivity and high strength. At the time of sending the side dam to casting direction at the prescribed speed through columns 8 and nuts 9, the closing property between the side dam and the rolls 1a, 1b is always held to good with the grinding effect. By this method, the operation of the continuous casting is stabilized. |
