PURPOSE:To attain easy discrimination of line drawing, gradation picture and mixed picture, by moving an original toward the sub-scanning direction, while a photoelectric conversion element reading the original picture toward the main scanning and scanning over almost the entire range of an original. CONSTITUTION:A light from a light source 13 is reflected on an original 11 and formed on a photoelectric conversion element 16 for original reading via a reflection mirror 14 and an image forming lens 15. In this pickup system, a photoelectric conversion element 171 for picture discrimination is provided at a point G so as to be shifted toward the main scanning direction (vertical direction to this paper). Through the element 171, a light from a minute area S of the original is detected, and the such as line drawing, gradation picture and mixed picture of the original is discriminated in a signal processing section 17 used for picture discrimination. |
