PURPOSE:To improve charging efficiency of a positive active material and to increase the cycling life and floating life by putting specific conductive carbon whiskers and/or graphite whiskers in an active material, and adding alkali metal metaphophate and/or pyrophosphate to the active material. CONSTITUTION:Electron-conductive carbon whiskers or graphite whiskers having a diameter of 10mum or less, an aspect ratio of 50 or more, and a specific surface area of 2m<2>/g or more are put in an active material. In addition, alkali metal metaphosphate and/or pyrophosphate are/is added to the active material so as to have an apparent density of 3.3-4.0g/cm<2> to form a paste type positive plate. Charge acceptability (charging efficiency) of the positive active material is improved and the cycling life and floating life are increased. |
