To separate off, in particular, oils and fats from waste waters (effluents) a chamber (1) is proposed having an inlet (2) and an outlet (3), in which chamber a non-woven web (7) is arranged which dips from the top into the waste water (6) but does not reach to the bottom (8) of the chamber (1) and on which non-woven web (7) fat-, oil- and hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms (13), such as bacteria, and/or enzymes are immobilised.
