Method for dressing rotary grinding tools

A method and apparatus for dressing rotary grinding tools are proposed, wherein, before each dressing cycle, the active surfaces of the grinding tool (3) and of the dressing tool (17) must be brought into a position of contact relative to one another, from which the actual dressing cycle begins. To determine the said contact between the tools (3 and 17), a quantity which changes during contact, for example the structure-borne noise or the torque, is measured by means of corresponding sensors (27). In order to achieve a very precise contact measurement here, the rotational speed of at least one rotary tool, the grinding tool (3) or, if appropriate, the dressing tool (17), is reduced in the approach phase of the two tools. A precise measurement of the contact of the two tools enables small defined dressing amounts to be set, so that economical, efficient dressing is possible. <IMAGE>
