The pressureless hot-water storage apparatus has an electrically heated tank, a cold-water supply pipe to the tank, which can be shut off, a hot water-tapping pipe and, in addition, a steam-tapping pipe. Electric heating can be switched from water heating to steam generation and the two tapping pipes for hot water and steam are equipped with valves, by means of which alternately the steam-tapping pipe can be shut off during hot-water operation and the hot water-tapping pipe can be shut off during steam operation.
