A thermoplastic adhesive for use in the garment industry or for home-sewn trousers or skirts to replace sewn seams is made by printing separate spots of adhesive on siliconised paper e.g. in a rhomboidal pattern. Before they become solidified, they are calendered so that the spots are joined by thinner bridges. Siliconised paper, e.g. to the GB Patent No. 2130125, is imprinted by a screen printing technique with intercrossing lines (3) of spots (4) of adhesive. When calendered, this results in a rhomboidal pattern of lines of alternating width. Suitable adhesives are polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, ethylene-vinyl acetate acrylic-acid terpolymers, polyester and terpolyamide. ADVANTAGE - This eliminates the present drawback that this substrate causes a considerable redn. or removal of the present stiffening effect.
