摘要 PURPOSE:To provide an excellent function under any working environment by using aq. liquid contg. carboxyvinyl polymer as a catalytic medium for nondestructive inspection so that said medium is advantageously used in manual, semiautomatic and automatic ultrasonic flaw detection and thickness measurement. CONSTITUTION:A catalytic medium is obtd. by mixing under stirring water and carboxyvinyl polymer usually at 0.1-20pts.wt. said polymer to 100pts. the water although the mixing ratio varies with the intended viscosity. This catalyst medium has a thixotropic property and the medium which has usually 90dyne/cm<2>, more particularly 118-700dyne/cm<2> yield value at 20 deg.C in the stage of coating and has >=98dyne/cm<2>, more particularly 107-665dyne/cm<2> yield value at 70 deg.C is preferable. The carboxyvinyl polymer having 1,000,000-3,000,000mol.wt. is used and is used in the form of the ammonium salt, etc. thereof. Water is used for the base of such catalyst medium and particularly when satisfactory ultrasonic transmittability is required, 20-90pts. glycerol and 0.1-20pts. the polymer are compounded with 100pts. water. The medium is used by adding adequately a rust preventive agent, corrosion preventive agent, surface active agent, etc. thereto according to need.
