PURPOSE:To shorten remarkably a recognition time of a character-string, and also to raise the recognition efficiency by reducing remarkably a recognition object category by use of a character information of an entered character-string and a sequence information in the character-string. CONSTITUTION:A character-string pattern 8 of a business form is scanned optically and stored by a character-string pattern observation and storage device 1. Subsequently, the number of characters in the pattern 8 is detected by a character number detecting device 2, and this information is sent to a reference pattern selecting device 5. At the same time, a sequence information of a character out from a character pattern cutting device 3 is sent to the device 5. Subsequently, a name consisting of three characters is selected from the names of prefectures of this train stored in a character-string information storage device 4 from a character number information by the device 5, and a recognition object character category for a character pattern ''Na'' 10 cut the sequence information is derived. Thereafter, in a character determining device 7, a character category name is determined by comparing and collating the input character pattern ''Na'' with a reference pattern corresponding to the recognition object character category. |
