The invention relates to drives for welding-wire feeds having regulated electric motors (11, 5). The motors have an armature-current regulation for a torque control, the armature-current regulator (20, 21) being subordinate to a rotational-speed regulator (22, 23). For the torque control, the rotational-speed regulator (23) is provided with a current limiter (24), the selected target rotational speed N2Soll being set higher or lower than the target rotational speed required or predetermined in normal operation, and the current limiter (24) limiting the armature current to the target value i2Soll above or below. For the acceleration phase and the braking phase, a respectively higher or lower armature current, corresponding to the inertial torque is temporarily supplied to the motor (11) via the adjustable current limiter (24). <IMAGE>
