The invention relates to a process for producing blocks from particle foam (PS), in particular from expandable polystyrene (EPS), in a mould which is filled from an intermediate store with prefoamed PS beads. In the case of the process according to the invention it is provided that the filling of the mould is performed predominantly by sucking in the PS beads from the intermediate store by means of reduced pressure which acts upon the PS beads through the mould walls. In the case of an apparatus according to the invention for carrying out the process, a reduced-pressure source (50) can be connected to an outer chamber of the mould (2) and is designed in such a way that its suction capacity is entirely or for the most part adequate for sucking in the PS beads via a closed pipeline (58) from the silo (70). The process and the apparatus according to the invention can be used in particular for producing footfall-sound insulating boards.
