PURPOSE:To obtain a flat plate type low pressure discharge lamp unit that can provide a number of independent emissions without color mixture by means of a single lamp. CONSTITUTION:A pair of opposed electrodes f1 and f2 are provided at almost the center of both ends of a flat plate type lamp tube L whose cross section is thin in the thickness direction and is wide in the lateral direction and the inner surface of the said tube is separately coated with two kinds of phosphor (a) and (b) with mutually different emission colors abutting on the center of the tube. When the lamp lights, the magnetic field of the N pole is always applied to the lamp in the positve semi-cycle and, on the contrary, that of the S pole is always applied to it in the negative semi-cycle. As a result, in the figure, the upper electrode f1 becomes the positive pole and the lower electrode f2 becomes the negative pole, Besides, when the direction of a magnetic field B is set so as to penetrate into the rear of the paper from its front, the intra-tube electron receives the Lorentz force and a discharge path D is inclined right.
