PURPOSE: To reduce acoustic noise by bringing a pair of heads into close contact with each other, combining them mechanically firmly and arranging them. CONSTITUTION: The signals applied to an input 3 is divided into continuous blocks with specific time intervals by a signal separator 3 and imparted to the input terminal 8, 9 of a time base correction circuit 7. Meantime, the write heads k1 , k2 combined to the output terminal of the circuit 7 constitute a pair of heads combined mechanically firmly to each other and arranged closely to each other at a position along the circumference of a drum 40. The signal blocks applied to the input terminal 8, 9 are time-expanded or time-compressed by the factor of the expression by means of the circuit 7, and also the signal at the input terminal 8 is temporarily delayed 16 compared with the input terminal 9. In the expression, [α.n/180.(M+1)],αstands for a wrapping angle of a magnetic recording carrier 1, n for the number of head pairs, and M for the number of times in which no signal is recorded in the carrier 1 within a specific time interval by a pair of heads. As a result, the heads k1 , k2 come into contact with the carrier 1 only at every rotation of the drum 40. Therefore, acoustic noise level can be reduced.
