PURPOSE:To obtain a self-curing composite bio-material by mixing fibers with a powder mixture consisting of alpha-tricalcium phosphate and tetracalcium phosphate. CONSTITUTION:A powder mixture consisting of alpha-Ca3(PO4)2 and Ca4O(PO4)2 is prepd. by the dehydration decomposition of hydroxyapatite having 1.50-1.68 molar ratio of Ca to P at >=1200 deg.C, and pulverizing the decomposed product. A self-curing composite bio-material having high strength is obtd. by adding a desired amt. of a material, for example, carbon fiber to the powder mixture. The bio-material is kneaded together with water, and the admixture is poured into a molding frame and allowed to stand at a specified temp. and a specified humidity for desired days, and then removed from the molding frame. Thus, a composite body of hydroxyapatite and carbon fiber is obtd, which has a high bending strength and high compressive strength. Since said composite bio-material has self-curing characteristic, the material requires no sintering treatment. |
