PURPOSE:To detect securely car height and position while providing an economical apparatus for washing a car, by making supersonic waves from a reflection type supersonic detector reflect from the upper surface of a car body to detect the car height and position. CONSTITUTION:When a gate type travelling frame 1 reaches a front end of a vehicle V, a reflection type supersonic wave detector 50 detects the car height larger than a first level H1 to rotatably drive respective rotary brushes 4, 5. When the frame 1 further advances so that the detector 50 reaches the upper surface of the front end of the vehicle, the detector 50 detects whether or not the car height exceeds a second level H2 so that the upper surface rotary brush 4 is held at the lower or upper limit position according to the car height. The car body V is washed by the respective brushes 4, 5 while the frame 1 travels. When the frame 1 passes by the rear end of the car body V, the detector 50 detects the car height becomes less than the first level H1 to stop the rotation of the rotary brushes 4, 5 and the travel of the frame 1. |
