PURPOSE: To support a camshaft correctly and restrain wear of bearings by arranging a thrust slide bearing for axially unmovably supporting a camshaft at a location in the longitudinal direction of the camshaft between adjacent cams of a plurality of cams of the camshaft. CONSTITUTION: A camshaft 1 formed integrally by a plurality of cams 2 is arranged in a casing 3. The two end surfaces 4, 5 thereof are supported respectively by a plurality of rolling bearings 6 having rolling elements 7. The camshaft 1 is axially unmovably supported by a thrust slide bearing 9 at a location in the longitudinal direction of the camshaft. In this case, the thrust slide bearing 9 is arranged between adjacent cams of the plurality of cams 2. The thrust slide bearing 9 is arranged substantially in the central portion of the casing 3. A slideable flange 14 arranged on the camshaft 1 is supported by the thrust slide bearing 9. Thus, it is possible to support the camshaft 1 correctly and restrain wear of bearings 6, 9.
