PURPOSE:To improve a corrosion resistance and to impart a beautiful metallic luster by specifying the water content in the org. solvent in a plating bath and an atmosphere at the time of forming an oxidation-resistant plating layer on the surface of a rare earth metal permanent magnet consisting essentially of Nd, Fe and B. CONSTITUTION:A rare earth metal permanent magnet of an R2T14B intermetallic compd. consisting essentially of R, Fe and B is prepared (where R is a rare earth element including Y and T is a transition metal). The water content in the org. solvent in the bath for plating the permanent magnet is controlled to <=3000ppm. An oxidation-resistant plating layer is formed on the surface of the permanent magnet by using the bath. In this case, plating is carried out in the atmosphere of an inert gas such as Ar and N2. |
