NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is lower alkyl; X is halogen or phthalimide). EXAMPLE:2-(2-Chloroethoxy)-4-fluoroanisole. USE:A synthetic intermediate for medicines. PREPARATION:An alcoholic derivative expressed by formula II is reacted with a halogenating agent (e.g., thionyl chloride or phosphorus pentabromide) in or without an organic solvent (e.g., chloroform or benzene) at a temperature within the range of cooling with ice to 200 deg.C to afford the compound expressed by formula I.
