PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration of exhaust gas emission by having one of the several exhaust gas turbochargers arranged side-by-side to be impossible to shut off, and arranging shut-off devices openable automatically in correspondence with the exhaust flow in the exhaust gas pipe of the said turbocharger. CONSTITUTION: Three side-by-side exhaust gas turbochargers 16-18 are arranged in the front stage of a charging air collecting pipe 13 for supplying charging air to two groups of cylinders 11, 12. The turbochargers 16, 17 among the three turbochargers 16-18 can be actuated/shut-off respectively by exhaust gas shut-off devices 27, 28 interposed in exhaust gas supply pipes 25, 26 and charging air shut-off devices 29, 30 interposed in charging air suction pipes 31, 32. An exhaust gas shut-off device 34 is interposed in an exhaust gas pipe 33 of the turbocharger 18 which is not possible to shut-off. The shut-off device 34 comprises a throttle valve 35 which is opened when rotary moment in the valve opening direction in conjunction with the exhaust gas flow raises the urging force of a spring 38. |
