PURPOSE:To contrive the miniaturization of an optical head and the reduction in weight by providing a polarized beam splitter on a position where both of an emitted light from a light source and a reflected light from an optical recording medium are made into non-parallel rays of light. CONSTITUTION:On the optical axis of a semiconductor laser 1 as the light source, a polarized beam splitter 2 in an approximately cubic shape, a lambda/4 plate 3 fixed integrally with the polarized beam splitter 2, a collimator lens 4 and an objective 5 are provided. The polarized beam splitter 2 is provided on the position where both of the emitted light from the semiconductor laser 1 and the reflected light from the optical recording medium are made into the non-parallel lights. In such a manner, the collimator lens between, for example, the polarized beam splitter 2 and semiconductor laser 1 and between the polarized beam splitter 2 and a focus and tracking error detecting means 11 can be omitted. Thus, the whole optical head can be miniaturized and reduced in weight. |
