PURPOSE: To make a double-sided document inverting passage compact by performing deskewing and side edge registration twice in making a copy by performing an inversion copy of a double-sided document and document side edge registration at upstream of a platen. CONSTITUTION: A duplex automatic document feeder 20 inverts a sheet 27 on a document tray 26 by an inverse C-shaped single-sided document passage 30 through a side edge registration and deskewing system 34 to be fed on platen glass 12 so as to be discharged on an output tray 38 from an output passage 36 after exposure. A double-sided document is fed on the platen 12 through the single-sided passage 30, is inversely fed after exposing a single side, is inverted again by passing through a double-sided document passage 40, again passes through a feed roller 45 and the side edge registration and deskewing system 34, and is fed on the platen 12 by performing side edge registration and deskewing to be discharged on the output tray 38 after exposure. Thus, the double-sided document passage can be made compact, and a document can be discharge and loaded in right page order.
