An apparatus for removal of the remains of fat and flesh from the flesh-side of the skin or pelt (25) of a fur-bearing animal has a piercing plug (15) with a free tapered end. The skin (25) that shall be treated is brought with the tail side outwards and in an essentially stretched-out condition onto the free end of the plug. The plug (15) generally has a polygonal, for example rectangular, cross section. The plug and the skin brought onto it is transferred lengthwise through a scraper by a pair of rollers (26, 31) positioned over one another that have scraping edges (49) which together form a contour which generally flows the cross section contour of the plug (15). The remains of the fat and flesh can thus be removed from the skin (25) through a single forwards movement of the plug in relation to the scrapers, and the treated skin can be pulled from the plug upon its return path.<IMAGE>
