NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is formula II or formula III; X is CH2OCOCH2COOH). USE:A remedy for heart failure and trial arrhythmia having Na<+>-K<+> ATPase inhibiting action. PREPARATION:A crude drug Bupleuri Radix consisting of root of Buplenrum falcatum is extracted with diethyl ether and the residue after extraction is further extracted with ethyl acetate, etc. Then extract obtained by removing the solvent from the resultant extracted solution is distributed to water-saturated n-butanol and water and then n-butanol extract is subjected to high speed liquid chromatography using n-hexane as an eluting solvent. Finally, the eluate is fractionated with a thin-layer chromatography or high speed liquid chromatography.
