The invention relates to a method and a device for processing an analog electrical signal, in particular a barcode image signal, with a view to obtaining a binary signal whose parameters can be analysed. The method of the invention consists in storing certain non-linear filtering parameters MP and, after having converted the analog signal into a digital signal CAN, in sequentially detecting the successive extrema of the said digital signal PIC by an iterative processing taking account of the said parameters and in then carrying out, on each sequence, a segmentation processing BIN on the basis of the detection of each extreme, with a view to extracting and storing RAM lengths of segments representative of the succession of the extrema.
