<p>PURPOSE:To obtain oriented films by which a ferroelectric liquid crystal can be well oriented by coating the surface of transparent electrodes or electrical insulating layers subjected to a rubbing treatment with liquid crystalline molecules having >=1 polymerizable functional groups and polymerizing the coating by irradiation of UV rays, etc., thereby forming the oriented films. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2a, 2b and the oriented films 3a, 3b are superposed on transparent substrates 1a, 1b to constitute the transparent electrode substrates 5, 6 and the liquid crystal 4 is sealed between the oriented films 3a, 3b. At least one of the oriented films 3a, 3b is formed by coating the surfaces of the transparent electrodes 2a, 2b subjected to the rubbing treatment with the liquid crystalline molecules having at least >=1 polymerizable functional group and polymerizing the coating by irradiation of UV rays, electron beams, etc. At least either of the oriented films 3a, 3b is formed by subjecting the film formed by application of the liquid crystalline molecules having at least >=1 functional group and polymerizing the same by irradiation of the UV rays or electron beams to the rubbing treatment. The oriented films by which the ferroelectric liquid crystal is well oriented is obtd. in such a manner.</p> |
