PURPOSE:To prevent generation of scratches on the peripheral surface of a rolling roll and quality degradation of a rolled stock by setting a gap between the roll peripheral surface and the top of a sealant and sealing a rolling roll coolant under a noncontact condition by adjusting the gap in accordance with a peripheral speed of the roll. CONSTITUTION:The proper number of hydraulic cylinders 8 are mounted on a cobble guard 6 and a sealant 5 is fixed to a piston rod 9 of the cylinders 8. A gap between the peripheral surface of a rolling roll 2 and the top of the sealant 5 is measured by a sensor and the top of the sealant 5 is positioned by actuating the cylinders 8 by a directional control valve so that the gap is brought to be in a good sealing region. Thus, sealing a roll coolant is performed without contacting the sealant 5 with the peripheral surface of the roll 2. |
