PURPOSE: To realize quick and accurate assay while shortening the incubation time by inhibiting formation of a composite using a surfactant in a liquid single reagent and then reversing the inhibition by adding cyclodextrin. CONSTITUTION: A liquid single reagent contains a reaction inhibiting quantity of a surfactant and a complementary member of a specifically bonded pair (antigen/antibody pair). Other components of an assay medium, e.g. an enzyme substrate and a buffer, are contained in the reagent composition. The reagent may be a dry powder. The surfactant includes cationic, anionic, both cationic and anionic, and nonionic surfactants which exists in the reagent at a concentration sufficient for inhibiting formation of a composite between complementary members. Action of the surfactant is reversed using cyclodextrin and a composite can be formed. Cyclodextrin is a cyclic amylose including three types (α-γtypes) and added by 0.1-5 times, normally 0.5-3 times, of a sample and the reagent in volume.
