A transmission for a vehicle comprises a mechanical multi- step gearbox 6, in front of which a hydraulic torque converter 5 is arranged. The torque converter 5 comprises a turbine wheel 19 which is connected to a turbine shaft 21. In this connection, the turbine shaft 21 is connected in a drive-transmitting manner to an input shaft 25 for the gearbox 6 without the possibility of uncoupling disengagement between the shafts 21, 25. Therefore, there is no mechanical clutch for interrupting the drive between the shafts during changing in the multi-step gearbox 6.
