ENERGY CONTROL FILM AND OPENING INSULATING METHOD FOR NATURAL LIGHTING

PURPOSE: To obtain a metallized films with energy control by directly applying the films to glass in fitting to an opening for lightening by heat shrinkage. CONSTITUTION: An insulated window 20 includes a pane 22 formed of glass. The pane 22 is held by a frame 24. The frame 24 has an interior flange 26 and an exterior flange 28 which enclose a perimeter 30 of the pane 22. Double sided tape 32 secures an energy control film 10 to the interior flange 26 of the frame 24. The tape 32 effectively seals the film 10 to the frame 24 to enclose a portion of 'dead' or trapped air 34, which insulates the window 20 from heat conducted through the pane 22. Metallic layer 14 limits the transmission of light through the window. In one embodiment, the metallic layer 14 limits both visible and infrared radiation to about 50% transmission. In another embodiment, infrared radiation is selectively limited to a greater degree than visible light.
