Granular material of oleophilic nature for water treatment and process of manufacture

Granular material for water treatment and process for its manufacture. The material takes the form of spheroid granules, each made up of a thermoplastic polymer matrix and a denser adjuvant in the form of micrograins dispersed in the said matrix. At its surface, each granule has cationic hydrophilic sites and oleophilic sites whose relative density is adjusted as a function of the desired lipophile/hydrophile balance. The manufacturing process consists in mixing a thermoplastic resin with an adjuvant in powder form, heating the mixture to make it plastic, extruding it and sectioning it as a function of the desired size, ensuring prilling of the cut sections by quenching and creating hydrophilic sites and oleophilic sites at the surface of the granules in the appropriate respective proportion. This last operation may be carried out by first of all creating hydrophilic sites over the whole surface and then subsequently grafting oleophilic sites on a determined proportion of the said hydrophilic sites.
