In the case of textile braking devices which have been disclosed in the past and are intended to reduce the air speed and possibly spin of a flying body connected to them, especially a submunition body, in the manner of a parachute canopy, both unfolding of the canopy at high rotation rates and maintenance of its effective shape at low rotation rates are problematic. In order to overcome these disadvantages, a braking device (10) is proposed according to the invention, in the case of which a spiral conical spring (28) is provided in the interior of the parachute canopy (12) of said device in order to unfold it irrespective of the rotation rate. Such a braking device (10) is furthermore distinguished by low mass and a small packing volume and, by virtue of its large-area support in the apex region of the parachute canopy (12) is used to stabilise its shape in the event of reducing rotation rates. <IMAGE>
