PURPOSE:To reduce generation of the shock caused by speed change by keeping a speed change ratio to the one other than the minimum speed until time counting from an instant of switching to a start range reaches a predetermined period of time, and by changing speed to a speed change ratio of the minimum speed after the predetermined period of time passes. CONSTITUTION:In switching of a frictional element for starting of an automatic gear from a neutral range to a start range by hydraulic actuation, an instant of switching of manual valve from its neutral state to a start range is detected by a start switching detecting means, and time counting begins in a time counting means. A speed change instruction means instructs a frictional element for starting of a change gear mechanism to keep a speed change ratio to the one in starting operation, or the one other than the minimum speed until the counting of the time reaches a predetermined period, and to change the speed change ratio to the minimum speed after the predetermined period of time passes. Since the predetermined period of time is set to a minimum value required before a car begins starting practically with an accel given, speed change is completed at the instant of starting. In this way, the shock caused by speed change can be reduced without giving a driver uneasiness. |
