A back-rest for chair, arm-chair, seat or the like, has two laterally arranged back-shells (1) of similar design to the support surfaces of horse saddles, which are concave in relation to an axis essentially perpendicular to the seat surface (20) and convex in relation to a horizontal transverse axis above the seat surface (20).
