Foot fixation splint

After injuries and operations on the external ligamentous apparatus, the foot has hitherto been encased in plaster in order to immobilise it. Besides other serious disadvantages, in this case post-operative treatment of operation wounds is impossible. Foot fixation splints made of a rigid material do not provide adequate, immobilising fixation of the metatarsus and cannot be changed without risks. The problems encountered hitherto are solved by a two-part foot fixation splint whose lateral parts engage over the ankle region but which exposes the region of the Achilles tendon, and which fixes the back of the metatarsus against ascending with supination by means of a closure restrainer. With such a foot fixation splint, the patient can walk even lengthy distances with an unremarkable gait after only a short time. <IMAGE>
