Sizing agent

The invention relates to a sizing agent based on natural, synthetic or semisynthetic (regenerated) polymers. It is characterised in that it contains, based on the total weight of the sizing agent, from 10 to 50% by weight of a non-toxic, water-soluble salt selected from alkali and alkaline earth metal chlorides, sulphates, bicarbonates and sulphamates. The sizing agent of the invention has a reduced chemical and biological oxygen demand and therefore constitutes an improvement in terms of ecology without adverse effect on the application properties.
