Cell culture fermenter

The cell culture fermenter is used, in particular, for cultivating and growing mammalian cells. The living cells must, as a precondition of their survival and their growth, be provided with oxygen and nutrients in accurately metered amounts and likewise have their waste products, which result from metabolic reactions, such as carbon dioxide and other substances which are no longer required, disposed of. For this purpose, a stirrer shaft (5) which is mounted rotatingly about a vertical long axis (z-z) of a pressure tank (1) is provided on its circumference with stirrer blades (6) which are designed like an aerofoil profile. The stirrer blades (6) are hollow on the inside and their boundary walls (6a, 6b) are perforated. The cavities (19a, 19b) in the stirrer blades communicate with collecting channels (k1a, k1b, k2a, k2b) of the stirrer shaft (5), which are supplied from the connection head (A) of the stirrer shaft with the substances to be introduced or discharged. <IMAGE>
