PRODUCTION OF ALPHA-OLEFINS

The invention provides a solution for the problem due to the by-product polymer in the process for the production of alpha -olefin compounds by the oligomerization reaction of ethylene in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst. In the improved method according to the invention, the reaction mixture after completion of the reaction is subjected to an adiabatic flashing treatment to recover the unreacted ethylene and to precipitate the by-product polymer which is crushed to have a specified particle diameter and the reaction mixture containing the polymer particles is heated after deactivation of the catalyst and deashing up to a temperature sufficient to dissolve the polymer particles prior to isolation of the alpha -olefin products by distillation.
