Usually, lighting systems for bicycles are supplied with current by a dynamo. The disadvantage of this is the necessary frictional engagement of the separate dynamo with an appropriate wheel of the bicycle. Especially when it is damp this frictional engagement is not always achieved resulting in inadequate lighting. In the lighting system according to the invention, a generator is provided in that the generator coils (13, 14) and an accumulator (15) are permanently connected to the frame whilst the permanent magnets (21) of the generator are integrated into a wheel of the bicycle. A lighting system which is designed in this way operates without frictional engagement and is thus reliable even in damp weather. The lighting system according to the invention is particularly suitable for arrangement in the region of a front wheel (10) of the bicycle. <IMAGE>
