MAGNETO-OPTICAL DISK AND MAGNETO-OPTICAL DISK RECORDING METHOD

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for the erasing stage of a magneto-optical recording layer and to increase the transfer rate of data by recording signals on the magnetic recording layer by a magnetic head and transferring the signals to the magneto-optical recording layer by a light beam before a disk makes one turn. CONSTITUTION:The magneto-optical recording layer 14 consisting of an alloy of a rare earth and transition metal and the magnetic recording layer 16 are laminated on a substrate 12, by which the magneto-optical disk 11 is formed. A leak magnetic field 21 is generated to act as the bias magnetic field of the layer 24 when the signals are written on the layer 26 by the magnetic head 18. The layer 14 is irradiated with the laser beam 19 to raise the temp. in said part to the Curie temp. before the disk 11 makes one turn. The magnetization 22 corresponding to the bias magnetic field is transferred to the layer 14 when the fall begins after the irradiation. The signals of the layer 16 are overwritten even if the layer 14 has the recording. The erasing process for the magneto-optical recording layer is eliminated in this way and the transfer rate of the data is increased.
