An apparatus [50] for bending a glass sheet [G; g] has a heating zone [1] for heating the glass sheet [G; g], a shaping zone [3] for shaping the glass sheet [G; g], and a cooling zone [4; 8, 9] for cooling the glass sheet [G; g]. A transfer zone [2] for transferring the glass sheet [G; g] is disposed immediately before the shaping zone [3] with respect to the direction in which the glass sheet [G; g] is fed. The glass sheet [G; g] is fed through the transfer zone [2], the shaping zone [3], and the cooling zone [4; 8, 9] by a ring mold mechanism [14; 114; 214] which supports the glass sheet [G, g] from below.
