<p>PURPOSE:To enhance correction quality and reduce consumption of a correction tape by providing a means for automatically discriminating one of two modes which is being used at the time of correcting an underlined character, and a means for changing the quantity of the correction tape to be consumed. CONSTITUTION:A typewriter has a fixed pitch feeding mode and a non-constant PS pitch feeding mode for characters to be printed, and comprises a means 101 for automatically discriminating one of the two modes which is being used at the time of correcting an underlined character, and a means 102 for changing the quantity of a correction tape to be consumed according to the discriminated mode. When a character to be corrected is an underlined character, it is judged whether the mode being used is the PS mode. When the mode being used is not the PS mode, a control is carried out to correct the underline '-' and the character by the same part of the correction tape, thereby reducing the consumption of the tape. When the mode being used is the PS mode, the correction tape is so fed as to correct the underline '-' and the character by different parts of the correction tape, and the correction of the underline '-' is performed by shifting the tape vertically through driving a cam 12 and, simultaneously, repeating a hammering action a plurality of times.</p> |
