PURPOSE:To provide a working fluid for Rankine cycle, which has a high flash point, a low boiling point and excellent stability and is suited to utilize a relatively low-temperature heat source, consisting mainly of 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropanol or a mixture thereof with water. CONSTITUTION:100-81pts.wt. 2,2,3,3,3,-pentafluoropropanol (PEP) and 0-19pts. wt. water are mixed to obtain the desired working fluid for Rankine cycle. The flash point of PEP is not lower than 60 deg.C which is at least 1.5 times as high as that of trifluoroethanol used as conventional working fluid for Rankine cycle. PEP has excellent stability at ordinary or high temperature and does not corrode metal such as iron. Further, PEP has a b.p. of 80.3 deg.C and can form an azeotropic mixture with water. The azeotropic mixture has a b.p. of 77 deg.C and is suitable for use as a working fluid for Rankine cycle, which uses a relatively low-temperature heat source. |
