摘要 PURPOSE:To improve electromagnetic conversion characteristics and to decrease the wear of a magnetic head by providing plural magnetic layers formed by dispersing specific ferromagnetic material powder into a binder. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium consists of a nonmagnetic base and the plural magnetic layers provided thereon. The plural magnetic layers are discriminated to the surface magnetic layer positioned on the uppermost layer and the internal magnetic layer existing therein and the magnetic layers consist of the ferromagnetic material powder and the binder which binds the powder in the uniformly dispersed state. The ferromagnetic material powder in the surface magnetic layer is Co-FeOx (1.33<=x<=1.5) having 800-1000Oe coercive force, <0.30mum major axis length by a transmission type electron microscope, and <300Angstrom crytallite size by X-ray diffraction. The ferromagnetic material powder in the internal magnetic layer is Co-FeOx (1.33<=<=1.5) having 350-900Oe, more particularly 500-800Oe and >=300Angstrom crystallite size by X-ray diffraction. The electromagnetic conversion characteristics and the property to wear the magnetic head are improved in this way.
