PURPOSE:To search a targeted alternate sector in a short time even when a defective sector exists in an alternate area by writing dummy data on an alternate defective sector after completing alternate write when the defective sector is found out in the alternate area at the time of performing a write operation. CONSTITUTION:In the case of generating a defect in write data by the write operation in which an arbitrary sector N in a user area 10 is designated, the alternate write is performed by searching the null sector in the alternate area 12. Also, in the case of generating the defect in the write data by the alternate write, the alternate write on succeeding null sectors are repeated until a normal write result can be obtained, and the dummy data is written on the alternate sector in which defect is generated after completing the alternate write. In such a way, it is possible to search the alternate sector in the user area 10 in which sector defect is generated in a short time even when the defective sector exists in the alternate sector, and to shorten an alternate processing time remarkably. |
