PURPOSE:To provide the subject J aggregate thin film small in the half value width of an absorbed peak at the maximum absorption wavelength, having excellent aging stability and suitable for high density recording materials. CONSTITUTION:The single molecular film of dyestuff molecules (e.g., cyanine dye) having an absorption peak half value width of <=20nm at the maximum absorption wavelengths is formed on the water surface, held under a surface pressure of 5-30mN/m at >=30 deg.C for >=30min, gradually cooled and transferred on a substrate to provide the objective J aggregate thin film.
