PURPOSE:To obtain a visually favorable print according to an inputted signal by converting a video signal according to set tone reproduction characteristics, outputting the converted signal, and switching the set tone reproduction characteristics according to a detected signal level. CONSTITUTION:A selector 3 is controlled by, for example, a system controller 7 to select and output one of three systems of RGB signal. A characteristic- switching means 1 converts inputted signals according to set gamma characteristics, and outputs the converted signals. A switch 3 selects and output only one of color signals inputted, and then the output signal is converted by an A/D converter 4 into gradation data which is a digital signal. The gradation data is converted by an intermediate gradation controlling means 5 into data indicating energization times on an input gradation basis, and the converted data is transferred to a thermal head 8, which performs printing. The gamma characteristics are switched by the switching means 1 according to a signal from an adjusting means 2 or a signal level detecting means 14. |
