PURPOSE:To rapidly and exactly measure the activity of anaerobic bacteria by providing a mixed suspended solid concn. (MLSS) meter and glucose selecting electrode in a measuring vessel and charging the specified amt. of the anaerobic bacteria into the vessel, then dropping a standard glucose soln. thereto. CONSTITUTION:The MLSS meter 2, the glucose selecting electrode 3 and a level gage 4 are housed and hermetically sealed in the measuring vessel 1. A pump 5 is first started and while the level is detected by the level gage 4, the specified amt. of sludge contg. the anaerobic bacteria is charged into the vessel 2 and is so agitated by gaseous N that the sludge is uniformized in the vessel 1. The standard glucose soln. is supplied to the vessel 1 from a glucose storage tank 6 after the specified time. The glucose reacts as time passes by and decreases its volume when the glucose is dropped into the sludge contg. the anaerobic bacteria. The decrease amt. thereof is detected by an electrode 3 and is supplied after signal conversion 8 to an arithmetic part 9. The MLSS meter 2 detects the amt. of the bacteria in the vessel 1 and outputs the same to the arithmetic part 9 after signal conversion 7. The arithmetic part 9 evaluates the activity by measuring the reaction time required for the glucose to decrease by the specified amt. (for example, 50%) and outputs a evaluation index value. |
